Mukono District, situated in Uganda’s Central Region, is a place where the pulse of the nation beats strong. It’s a district that shares a close connection with Kampala, Uganda’s capital, and you’ll see that influence in its mix of bustling areas and quieter, rural settings. Agriculture forms the heart of much of the local economy, with farmers working the land to cultivate crops like maize, bananas, and a variety of vegetables. You’ll also find that Mukono is a place of learning, with institutions like Uganda Christian University located in Mukono Town. As more people seek opportunities around Kampala, Mukono is experiencing growth and change, creating both new energy and some real challenges for the communities here. Mukono Town itself serves as the district’s main hub, a place where things happen and decisions are made

  • Arrival in Kampala: Volunteers begin their journey by arriving in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. Volunteers are met at the airport upon arrival by our Country Representative.
  • Initial Orientation: The volunteer’s initial days in Kampala include an orientation. This orientation covers important information about Ugandan culture, safety guidelines, and details about the volunteer mission.
  • Travel to Mukono District: The Mukono District Farmers’ Association (MDFA) program takes place in the Mukono District.  Transportation by road to Mukono district will be arranged after the orientation with the MDFA team. Mukono District is around 1 hour drive by car from Kampala.

  • Travel Tours: At the end of their volunteer program, volunteers will embark on a 3 day tour exploring the wonders of Uganda with their volunteer group

It can be boiled, roasted, or ground onto flour and used in various dishes Rice:  Rice is becoming a staple food in Uganda especially in urban areas.
