VTTW combines community-led programming with personalized volunteer matching. After registering and submitting an online application, each volunteer meets online with our Programs Advisor to discuss their interests, skills, goals, travel preferences, and support needs. Our programs support responsible cultural exchange, meaningful participation, and priorities identified by the communities and organizations with which we work.
Volunteer To The World is a registered social enterprise, not a traditional charity. Program fees support coordination, accommodation, transportation, participant support, local partnerships, and other operational needs involved in delivering safe and organized volunteer experiences.
Volunteers contribute to longer-term initiatives identified by our local partners. Depending on the program, this may include education, community development, wildlife and environmental conservation, animal welfare, sustainable agriculture, livelihood development, or skills sharing. Short-term volunteers contribute as part of an ongoing effort rather than being expected to solve a community challenge independently.

A Community Impact Day is a short, locally organized experience—usually lasting one day—that allows participants to support a community or environmental project without joining a longer international placement. These programs are suitable for local residents, travelers, companies, community groups, and people trying volunteering for the first time.
Yes. You do not need to make the decision alone. Every applicant receives a personalized online consultation with our Programs Advisor after registering and submitting an application. The Programs Advisor will guide you through the available options, answer your questions, and recommend a program that aligns with your interests and abilities while providing meaningful support to the host organization.
Most VTTW programs do not require previous experience. The most important qualities are flexibility, respect, responsibility, cultural sensitivity, and a willingness to learn. Programs involving healthcare, counseling, veterinary work, or other specialized activities may require relevant qualifications or experience.
Yes. We welcome participants who can responsibly contribute professional or practical skills. Tell us about your experience during the application process so we can discuss it with the local partner. Participants must not perform regulated or specialized work beyond their qualifications.

Most international programs are designed for participants aged 18 or older. Participants under 18 must either travel with a parent or legal guardian or provide written consent from a parent or legal guardian approving their participation in the trip. There is generally no maximum age. Participants should be physically and medically able to complete the activities involved in their chosen program. Some placements are more physically demanding than others, and our team can help identify a suitable option.
Absolutely. Many VTTW participants join independently. Our team and local partners help you prepare, provide arrival information, and connect you with the people supporting your placement. Group size varies, so joining independently does not always mean that other international volunteers will be present during the same dates. The online session is a personalized opportunity to discuss what you hope to gain and contribute. Our Programs Advisor will answer your questions, explain suitable options, and help match you according to your interests, abilities, goals, available dates, travel preferences, and the needs of the host organization.
We recommend applying at least four to eight weeks before your intended start date. Applying earlier is advisable for fixed-date Impact Trips, peak travel periods, specialized placements, visa-dependent programs, or group bookings. Last-minute applications may be possible when space and preparation time allow.
Your placement is confirmed after VTTW and the local partner approve your application and the required deposit or program payment has been received. Please do not book non-refundable flights until we confirm your placement dates in writing.
An application for a particular program may not be approved if the placement is not suitable for the volunteer’s experience, qualifications, abilities, or support needs; if the program’s specific requirements are not met; or if there is not enough space for the requested dates. In these situations, our Programs Advisor will work with you to better understand your interests and needs, identify the best fit, and recommend a more suitable VTTW program whenever an appropriate alternative is available. Applications may also be declined if required documentation is not provided or if VTTW or the local partner determines that participation would not be appropriate or safe.

Depending on the program, fees may support accommodation, meals, transportation, airport transfers, local coordination, orientation, participant preparation, 24-hour support, program administration, and contributions to local activities. Program fees also help prevent host organizations from carrying the financial cost of accommodating international volunteers.
Inclusions vary and may include accommodation, selected meals, airport pickup or drop-off, local transportation included in the itinerary, placement coordination, support from VTTW and local representatives, scheduled cultural activities or excursions, and program materials or contributions to the local project. Yes. Every volunteer who successfully completes their project will automatically receive a certificate of participation. You do not need to request it. If you require specific wording or additional documentation for a university, employer, service-hour requirement, or another institution, please tell us before your program begins.

International travel always involves some level of risk. VTTW works with local partners to provide preparation, local guidance, appropriate accommodation, emergency contacts, and program support. Participants must follow safety instructions, respect local laws and customs, disclose relevant medical information, and avoid behavior that could place themselves or others at risk.
Support may include pre-departure assistance, local orientation, placement coordination, airport transfer arrangements, and assistance from VTTW or local representatives during the program. Every VTTW international program includes access to 24-hour emergency support for the duration of the official program.
